Welcome to Sevilla!
In 2026, we will host the 1st International Congress on World Food Policy dedicated to addressing global food challenges through science and institutional collaboration. This congress is a multidisciplinary initiative that brings together leading scholars from the social sciences—including political science, sociology, economics, and anthropology, — agricultural sciences, and nutrition and public health. It will welcome students, non-profit organizations, and policymakers, creating a dynamic space for dialogue and knowledge exchange. It is designed for anyone committed to tackling the complex issues surrounding food security and insecurity from a rigorous, evidence-based perspective. The relevance of our event could not be more critical: armed conflicts are escalating worldwide increasing hunger, climate change continues to disrupt crop production, and the effectiveness of international institutions is increasingly under scrutiny. This congress aims to foster dialogue, share cutting-edge research, and develop actionable strategies to ensure sustainable and equitable food systems for the future.
The primary objective of the 1st International Congress on World Food Policy is to provide comprehensive and up-to-date scientific knowledge about food security and insecurity, examining their effects across diverse temporal and spatial scales. This congress offers an exceptional opportunity to share the growing body of research on these issues, with the participation of national and international experts from multiple disciplines, and to discuss their impact at different levels. The event will convene leading scholars and policymakers to generate actionable insights that can influence both academic research and public policy.
The second objective is to analyze past and current academic literature and policy strategies in response to an expanding range of challenges, addressing issues such as gender perspectives, the right to food, crop modernization, sustainability and practical experiences from the field, among others. Ultimately, it will serve as a dynamic space for knowledge exchange and practical dialogue—benefiting professionals with direct responsibilities, individuals in civil service roles, and other stakeholders committed to making zero hunger a reality.
We look forward to welcoming you on May 8-9, 2026, at University Pablo de Olavide.
Sincerely,
Alfonso Sánchez Carrasco, PhD
President of the Organizing Committee Área de Ciencias Políticas y de la Administración de la Universidad Pablo de Olavide
